What Is a Bonus Bet?

A bonus bet is promotional wagering credit, not usually withdrawable cash.

Explain It Like I'm in Fifth Grade

A bonus bet is a token the sportsbook lets you use to place a wager.

You normally cannot withdraw the bonus amount itself.

If the bet wins, you commonly receive the profit, but not the bonus stake.

Simple Example

You use a $10 bonus bet at +200.

The wager wins.

  • Profit: $20
  • Bonus stake returned: commonly $0
  • Total amount credited: commonly $20

If you had used $10 in cash, the total payout would normally include both the $20 profit and your $10 wager.

Rules vary, so always check the promotion.

Why It Matters

A $10 bonus bet is not always worth the same as $10 cash.

The odds you choose can affect how much value you receive.

Biggest Beginner Mistake

A common mistake is expecting the bonus stake to be returned with the winnings.

Playbook Tip

Check whether the promotion says "stake not returned."

Important Rules to Check

Check:

  • Expiration date
  • Minimum odds
  • Eligible markets
  • Whether the stake is returned
  • Whether the bonus can be divided
  • Maximum winnings
  • Withdrawal requirements

Quick Quiz

  1. 1. Can you usually withdraw an unused bonus bet as cash?

  2. 2. Is the bonus stake commonly returned after a win?

  3. 3. Should you check the expiration date?
